Braun ThermoScan® measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue. Infrared heat is the natural warmth emitted by our body. When the Braun ThermoScan® IRT is placed in the ear, it continuously monitors the infrared heat emitted by the eardrum and surrounding tissue. Since the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control center in the brain, the ear accurately reflects the core body temperature. As a result, when the temperature rises, it is immediately detectable in the ear.

Unlike other thermometers, Braun ThermoScan® ear thermometer features a patented pre-warmed tip that minimizes the cooling effect of a cool probe tip. Whereas the tip of other thermometers can cool the area within the ear where the temperature is being measured, resulting in variable or inaccurate readings, the patented pre-warmed tip on the ThermoScan® is pre-warmed before use, to ensure professional accuracy that you can rely on, time and time again. The soft speculum and tip also ensures the thermometer is gentle and comfortable on a child’s ear. Plus, the ExacTemp® guidance system confirms the correct position and accurate reading with a light and a beep.

The probe of Braun ThermoScan® was designed to avoid damaging the eardrum, regardless of the person’s age. Even though the probe does not fit into the ear canal of a new-born, clinical studies have confirmed that accurate temperature readings can still be obtained in this age group when the Braun ThermoScan® is used very carefully.

Directions of Use/Preparation :

Please refer to instruction booklet for diagrams and complete instructions.

1.Remove the thermometer from the protective case.

2.Press the “Power” button. 

3.Attach a new Braun lens filter.

4.Fit the probe snuggly into the ear canal.

5.Push and release the Start button.

6.Temperature displays.

7.Press the Eject button to remove the used lens filter.

8.Discard the used lens filter.

NOTE: The Braun ThermoScan™ ear thermometer turns off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity, and can also be turned off manually by pressing the Power button.

Temperature taking hints:

Always use the thermometer with an undamaged lens filter for each measurement to maintain accuracy and hygiene, and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

Right ear and left ear measurements can vary.  Always take temperature in the same ear.

The ear must be free of excess ear wax build up to take an accurate temperature.

Use the untreated ear if ear drops or other medications have been placed in the ear canal.

General Care

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior, and if necessary to clean the probe tip, do so very gently with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.   Never use abrasive cleaners or  submerge thermometer in water or any other liquid.
